Department: Youth Services Department Frankfort Community/Clinton County Contractual Public Library Supervisor: Youth Services Manager Job Objective: The Youth Services Assistant will provide quality library service, materials and programs to babies, toddlers, children, teens, and adults at the Frankfort Community Public Library and Clinton County Contractual Public Libraries. Requirements High School Diploma Previous library experience is helpful, but not required Schedule Part-time Hourly Position 24 hours per week Evenings and weekends required Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for shelving of library materials Plan and present programs Assists with ensuring the Children’s Area is neat, organized, and looking nice. Assist Youth Services Manager and other programmers with maintaining Children’s play areas Oversees planning and conducting of monthly Free Family Movie Night Duties and Responsibilities Serves patrons at the Children’s Desk Assist patrons in locating materials or equipment, including electronic resources Supervise patrons in Children’s Area Promote programs and assist patrons in program registration Check-out and monitor patron computer use in the Children’s Area Assist Youth Services Dept. manager and Youth Services Librarian as necessary May attend professional conferences, read professional publications or take courses to improve ability to serve the library as approved by supervisor Conduct tours of the Children’s Area Conduct demonstrations of the library’s digital media equipment Ability to instruct patrons about library use and expected behavior Other duties as assigned by the Youth Services Manager Skills Ability to effectively communicate person-to-person, on the telephone, in writing or through email Ability to shelve with the Dewey Decimal system and knowledge shelving placement and procedures Ability to successfully navigate computers and the internet Ability to type, use computers, and photocopiers Ability to physically move book carts Ability to shelve materials on all levels of shelving Ability to instruct patrons about library use and expected behavior Environmental Conditions/Concerns Ability to physically move book carts with both sides filled with materials Ability to shelve materials on all levels of shelving Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids Computers, printers, typewriters, copy machine, fax machine, digital media equipment, audio/video equipment
