Department: Branches Supervisor: Branch Supervisor Job Objective: The Branch Clerk promotes and provides quality library service to the public by performing the essential job functions listed below under the supervision of the Branch Librarian. Schedule: Part-time Hourly position which may include working at multiple library locations. Work evenings as scheduled Work Saturdays as scheduled Essential Duties and Responsibilities Answer incoming telephone calls Assist patrons in person and on the telephone with book or material searches/procurement Answer reference questions or refer to Branch Supervisor or Frankfort Assist patrons with library materials Maintain various records as assigned by Branch Supervisor Balance money at the beginning of the day Be responsible for opening and closing the library as needed Process some materials and enter them into the computer Register new patrons and issue library cards Check in and out materials and equipment Shelve library materials Regular custodial duties as assigned by the Branch Supervisor, which is not limited to, but may include any or all of the following: Collecting and emptying trash and recycling bins and carrying them to the trash cans Clean the restrooms, including sinks, toilets, walls, floors, mirrors, and restock supplies, etc. Clean, mop, vacuum all floors Clean mirrors and windows Dust all areas Sanitize and/or clean all surfaces, including computer workstations, play areas, tables, counters, etc. Watering plants Pulling weeds, picking up trash, raking leaves, basic lawn clean up, etc. Clean snow or ice from sidewalks around the library if needed Other duties may be assigned by the Branch Supervisor and/or the Library Director. Education/Previous Experience Must have or be working towards obtaining a high school diploma. Background or working knowledge of library service is helpful, but not required Skills Ability to accomplish tasks with minimal supervision Ability to effectively communicate person to person, on the telephone, and in writing. Ability to push a book cart with both sides full of books. Ability to shelves books on both high and low shelves. Exhibit good interpersonal skills with patrons and co-workers Promote a positive, helpful image of library services Should be able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned. Adequate computer skills. Knowledge of library policies and procedures. Knowledge of Dewey decimal system. Knowledge of basic cleaning skills or the ability to learn Must be able to climb ladders Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally Machines, Tools, Equipment & Work Aids Computers, typewriters, microfilm readers, copy machine, fax machine
