Position Title: Student Intern – Temporary Employee (1 school semester) Department: Youth Services Department, Frankfort Community Public Library Supervisor: Youth Services Manager Date: Updated August 2025 Job Objective: Temporary student intern will assist permanent staff in providing quality library service, materials, and programs to patrons of all ages at the Frankfort Community Public Library and the Clinton County Contractual Public Libraries during one school semester. Employee may be given the option to work additional hours depending on the needs of the library, the student’s availability, and at the discretion of the Library Director. Temporary employment for this position is for one school year semester, but employment may be extended through the end of the month in which the school semester ends based on the needs of the library, student’s availability, and at the discretion of the Library Director. Employment may be extended/renewed for subsequent semesters at the Library Director’s discretion. Employment Ends: at the end of the school semester, but may be extended through the end of the month in which the semester ends or may be extended/renewed for subsequent school semesters depending on the student’s availability, needs of the library, and at the discretion of the Library Director. Schedule: • Part-time, temporary, 150 hours a semester • Work days, evenings, and weekends as scheduled Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Provide excellent customer service to all library patrons. • Assist library staff during programs including setup, materials preparation, and clean-up. • Assist library staff and patrons with various tasks such as checking in and out materials, shelving, sorting and moving materials. • Answer patron questions and assist patrons in using technology and with locating library materials. • Assist with various office administrative duties as assigned. • Assist with light cleaning, organizing, and dusting. Other Duties and Responsibilities • Inform and register patrons for events and programs. • Assist library staff in various departments with all other duties as assigned by the Youth Services Manager or the Library Director. Skills • Ability to effectively communicate person-to-person, on the telephone, and in writing. • Ability to provide excellent customer service. • Ability to follow instructions. • Ability to maintain confidentiality of library records. • Ability to sort materials alphabetically and numerically. • Knowledge of experience with computers and computer software. • Valid driver’s license. Pay: $7.25/hour Environmental Conditions Must be physically able to move book carts, shelve books on both high and low shelves, and be able to file books accurately alphabetically by author and by Dewey numbers.
