Position Title: Circulation Clerk Department: Circulation Department Frankfort Community Public Library/Clinton County Contractual Public Library Supervisor: Technical Services/Circulation Manager Date: Revised July 2023 Job Objective: The purpose of this position is to assist patrons at the main circulation desk. This includes checking materials in and out, directing telephone calls, and registering patrons for library cards. Shelve books in the adult library. Schedule: • Part-time hourly position • 24 hours per week • Work evenings as scheduled • Work Saturdays as scheduled Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Responsible for the shelving of all library materials in the Adult Library • Responsible for processing of all library materials Other Duties and Responsibilities • Balance money at the beginning of the day • Open the library, i.e. unlock doors and turn on lights • Process new magazines and enter onto the computer • Find reserves; call patrons • Answer all incoming telephone calls • Assist patrons with the copy machine and fax machine • Check in and out all materials and equipment • Assist with reference questions • Inform and register patrons for programs • Shelve books and AV • Close library at the end of the day, i.e. lock doors, count money and turn off lights • Register new patrons and issue library cards Any other duties assigned by the Circulation Supervisor and/or the Library Director. Pay: $12/hour Education/Previous Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous library experience is helpful, but not required. Skills • Ability to move around freely and quickly to assist patrons • Ability to carry and lift books • Ability to communicate effectively person to person, on the telephone, and in writing • Ability to type, file and count money • Must be able to deal effectively and pleasantly with the public even under stressful circumstances. • Knowledge of library policies and procedures • Knowledge of Dewey decimal system. • Basic computer skills. Environmental Conditions Must be physically able to move book carts, shelve books on both high and low shelves, and be able to file books accurately alphabetically by author and by Dewey numbers.
