Position Title: Custodian Supervisor: Facilities Manager Date: April 2025 JOB OBJECTIVE: Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the buildings, grounds, and property for the Frankfort Community Public Library and Clinton County Contractual Public Libraries. GENERAL PURPOSE: Clean and make the library ready for day-to-day operations and perform maintenance activities. Schedule: Part-time hourly position as needed, average hours not to exceed 20 hours per week. Schedule set and approved by Facilities Manager. Regular schedule will be during the hours the library is closed. The Library is open Mon-Thurs: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Fri-Sat: 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Regularly clean the main library in Frankfort including but not limited to restrooms, theater, art room, coffee shop, public gathering areas, staff work areas, meeting and study rooms, and offices. • Mix cleaning solutions/chemicals in containers to prepare for cleaning according to the instructions. • Follow all procedures and instructions for the use of chemicals, cleaning solutions, and power machinery to prevent damage to floors, fixtures, and other library property. • Use cleaning solutions to clean all areas of the library, including but not limited to the areas mentioned above. • Clean, scrub, and sanitize restrooms daily; including but not limited to all sinks, toilets, faucets, mirrors, walls, floors, trash cans, etc. • Use cleaning solution to clean windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls, and ceilings. Keep door glass windows, doors, and mirrors cleaned daily. • Clean, vacuum, sweep, scrub and/or mop all floors in the library including the restrooms and stairwells. Floors must be cleaned daily. • Shampoo/steam clean carpets and upholstery when necessary and/or during holiday library closings with approval. • Dust all areas of the library. This includes but is not limited to tops of wooden book shelves, furniture, equipment, walls, office areas, work areas, public areas, meeting and study rooms, etc. Dusting should be done on a weekly basis or more frequently. • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures using the appropriate cleaning solutions. • Replenish cleaning supplies and paper products daily or as needed in restrooms and throughout the library. This includes but is not limited to toilet paper dispensers, paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, tissues, etc. • Pick up refuse from around library building and property, including all refuse from trashcans and containers daily. Place trash bags in the dumpster. Set trash out for city pick up service. • Set up and clean meeting rooms as needed according to schedule provided by Administration. This involves moving and rearranging furniture and equipment. Clean/sanitize meeting rooms after use. • Assist in managing inventory of cleaning supplies and alert Facilities Manager if supplies are low. • Identify areas that are in need of repair and notify Facilities Manager • Perform maintenance tasks, such as replacing lightbulbs as needed using a ladder. • Water plants in and outside of the building as assigned. • Shovel snow and apply salt around entrances and library grounds as needed. • May perform some grounds keeping tasks, including but not limited to picking up refuse, pulling weeds, pruning, cleaning up leaves, and/or planting flowers in a pot. • May be assigned special projects or other maintenance tasks including but not limited to painting, making or assisting with repairs, and tasks that involve using power machinery tools, including power tools. • Drive library vehicle to the four library branch locations to clean and/or perform maintenance tasks as assigned. • May run the book delivery route, which involves taking crates of books back and forth between the four library locations. • Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: • Knowledge of cleaning methods, products, and procedures. • Experience using cleaning products, solutions, and equipment. • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for long periods. • Ability to lift and move heavy objects. • Ability to climb ladders and work while standing on a ladder. • Excellent communication skills • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive library vehicles. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: • Basic math skills. • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
