Pay Rate: $12/hr Job Objective: The Youth Services Clerk will provide quality library service, materials and programs to preschool, school aged children, young adults, and adult patrons at Frankfort and the branch libraries. Schedule: • Part-time, non-exempt, hourly position, 24 hours per week • Work evenings and weekends as scheduled Duties and Responsibilities • Staffing youth services desks in Children’s & Teens including days, evenings, and Saturdays • Helping to keep materials organized by shelving, shelf reading, helping with weeding, etc. • Maintaining accurate youth services statistics • Assembles program materials as needed • Assist with programs • Serve patrons at the Children’s and Teen’s Area Desks or on the telephone by assisting with material locations and selection. • Provide excellent customer service, reference service to patrons • Check out materials • Inform and register patrons for programs • Gather books for patron requests • Help set up book arrangement under the coordinated programmers • Read professional publications • Attend Staff Day and library conferences • Cleans Children’s Area toys as needed • Upholding and enforcing library policies • Preforms library tasks as assigned Other duties may be assigned by the Library Director or the Youth Services Manager Education/Previous Experience • High School Diploma • Experience with children and previous library experience is helpful. Skills • Self-direction and resourcefulness • Ability to effectively communicate person to person, on the telephone, and in writing • Knowledge of child development adequate to help children select materials and assist staff in presenting programs for all ages of children • Valid driver’s license • Knowledge of children’s and youth literature and authors • Ability to learn and use check out procedure, the Online Public Catalog, Dewey decimal system, shelving placement and library procedures Environmental Conditions • Must be physically able to move book carts, shelve books on both high and low shelves, • Able to file books accurately alphabetically by author and by Dewey numbers.
