Since Indiana was a public domain state, nearly every acre was surveyed and then sold or granted by the federal government before settlement. Field notes, plat maps, and land office tract book entries exist for the entire state and can be accessed at the Indiana Archives and Records Administration (IARA). Learn about these land records and more from Vicki Casteel, IARA’s Director of Patron and Outreach Services, at the Frankfort Community Public Library on August 26 at 5:30 p.m. Casteel has been with the Indiana Archives since 1997. She manages the Research Indiana Index’s many database projects. This Clinton County Genealogical Society meeting is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Library’s lower level meeting room. For more information, contact Jill Garrison at (765) 654-8746, ext. 1137 or jgarrison@myfcpl.org.
